Barren Island: India’s Lone Active Volcano Erupts Again
Barren Island volcano, India’s only active volcano, is located approximately 140 km from Port Blair. It is under close monitoring, with no immediate threat to nearby areas.
Eruptions have been recorded since 1787, with notable ones in 1991, 2005, 2017, and 2022. Recently, on September 13 and 20, it experienced minor eruptions, as per a video shared by the Indian Navy.
The island is uninhabited, measuring around 3 km in diameter, and features a central crater.
