5 Amazing Facts About The Great Banyan Tree of India – There is a Banyan Tree in India which is more than 250 years old. This tree is a remarkable natural wonder and belongs to the species Ficus benghalensis.

It is situated in the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden near Kolkata.

This tree covers an area of 18,920 square meters of land (4.7 acres).

In the year of 1989, it is registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest tree species in the world. A total of 3772 aerial roots to be precise.

The Great Banyan Tree of India

The crown of the tree has a circumference of 486 meters and the highest branch of this tree rises to 24.5 meters.

Ever after facing several cyclones this tree still stands like a rock, with the supports of many branches spread across the tree.
