Nandankanan Zoological Park – Things to know about this zoo

Nandankanan Zoo - Odisha

Zoological Park :  Nandankanak Zoological Park is situated 15 km from Bhubaneswar. It is built inside a completely natural forest. In 1979 It was opened for the public and become the first Indian zoo to join WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums)club in 2009. The meaning of Nandankanak is “The Garden of Heaven”

This zoo is spread over in 1080acre. Even after being affected by the super cyclone in 1999 and cyclones coming every year,
still, it is going well.

Nandankanak is the home of 1660 individual animals and it is famous for the Bengal Tiger and the first zoo in the world to breed famous White Tiger. There you find more than 81 species of bird, 18 species of reptiles and so many other animals.

Kanjia Lake- It spreads over 66 hec. area inside the zoo and is the main source of water. In 2006 it  was declared as a ‘Wetland of National Importance’ by MoEF.Here you can enjoy boating facilities.

Largest pools for housing Gharials and Hippopotamus.
The first birth of the Melanistic tiger in captivity was in the year 2014.
First record of breeding of Indian Ratels in captivity (in 2012).
Conservation Breeding Centres for Indian Pangolin and Long-billed vultures.
Other Facilities– You can enjoy boating, toy train facility, safari etc.
