Can we prevent flash flood in Cities?
Nowadays most smart cities or developed cities are suffering from a flash flood situation. In the recent period, the IT hub of India Bangalore has faced such a problem just after heavy rainfall. Some parts of the city are covered with water and people are unable to move here and there.
They went to the office by using tractors and JCBs as two-wheelers and cars failed to go with that heavy rush of water.
This is happening not only in Indian cities but also in other developed cities of the world like UAE, USA, Canada, and China.
Why the cities are facing such a situation:
In recent days most developed cities have no proper way to pass the water to the ground or improper sewerage is the main cause.
The concrete jungle has covered the maximum area which is why the groundwater or rainwater has no way to pass inside the ground. That stops the precipitation process and hampers the water cycle.
The drainage system also failed and most water bodies are no longer usable. Some made illegal falt on it which is a significant cause of this flood situation.
Can we stop Flash Flood in Cities?
Yes! proper city planning can stop or reduce the risk of such urban floods.
Government should take the initiatives to make the unused water bodies into usable ones. Lakes and other drainage parts should be cleaned properly.
Every house should have proper drainage and water.A heavy fine should be imposed on those violators as soon as possible.
