Why is the sea water salty?
Many people doubt why the sea water is salty. What is the reason behind the saltiness of seawater?
There are many reasons behind this, and people also spread some rumors on this topic. So forget the rumors and know the scientific reason behind the saltiness of the seawater. The saltiness of the seawater is due to various reasons. Some report says it’s due to the presence of salt inside the rocks that are present inside the sea.
Some reports also say it’s because of the rain. The rain washes many mineral ions from the land surface and it is mixed with the seawater. That is why seawater tastes salty. The rocks inside the sea floor produce ions and they mixed with the rainwater and reached the sea. These ions made the sea water salty. Openings on the sea-floor are also a major reason for the salinity of ocean water.
Most seawater contains Sodium and chloride. Nearly 90% of ions are found in seawater and all these are used to make cooking salt.
