Forests of Odisha : The state of Odisha is situated in the Eastern part of India. It shows diversified natural vegetation due to its special geographical location. The state has a good quantity of forest area and covers 39.31% of the total area of the state. These forests are well diverse and dense. It provides a large range of goods and services .

As per the 2019 report of India State of Forest, Odisha has a total of 61,204 sq km of forest area. Kandhamal has the highest forest area in Odisha.

According to the Forest department of Odisha, the Forest of Odisha has been divided into four parts.
1. The Northern Tropical Semi-Evergreen forest
2. The Tropical Moist Deciduous forest
3. The Tropical Dry Deciduous Forest
4. The Tidal Mangrove Forest

1. The Northern Tropical Semi-Evergreen forest
Found in – Dhenkanal, Puri, Nayagarh, Koraput and Kalahandi
Elevation- 600m
Trees- Arjun, Mango, Champa, Rai
2. The Tropical Moist Deciduous forest
Total covers 80% of the state
Found in – Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar
Trees -Daba Bamboo, Asan, Salia Bamboo
3. The Tropical Dry Deciduous Forest
Found in- Kalahandi, Balangir, Deogarh, Sambalpur
Trees- Teak, Sal, Dana Bamboo
4. The Tidal Mangrove Forest
Found in- Delta of Mahanadi, Bhitarkanika
Total mangrove- 14,987 hectares
Trees- Hental, Sundari, Guan, Rai, Bani

Importance of Forest for Odisha
1.Forests are the backbone of Odisha:’s economy.
2.A large group of People depends upon the forest for their income.
3.Tribal people use it for the various purpose to survive.
4.Some forest areas are famous for tourist points. It directly helps to boost the tourism sector of the state.
Threat to Odisha’s Forest:-
1.Even after taking strict action and implementing rules still some groups destroying the forest property.
2.Illegal activities like cutting of rare plants, killing of animals, forest land destruction, crushers used to sell stones, etc are increasing rapidly.
3.The destruction of forests is directly impacting not only on Economy but also it affects nature too. The rapid increase in temperature is the proof of it.
4.Forest fire, deforestation is also a major problem of forest loss.
