Hockey world cup 2023 mascot ‘Olly’ : Know More About ‘Olly’: Olly is the official mascot of the Hockey World Cup 2018 . Then in the 2023 Hockey World Cup, Olly re-introduced again. With a blue colored t-shirt themed on HWC 2023 and a blue colored Cap on the top of its head, Olly looks cool.
In reality, it is a replica of rare Olive Ridley Turtles. These species of turtles come under IUCN red list as their life is now in danger and their population gradually decreasing.
In Odisha, near Devi River lakhs of Olive Ridley comes to perform their mass nesting. Gahirmatha is also a hub of rare Olive Ridley turtles. Due to illegal killing and damage in their habitat, they fail to lay eggs. So, their number is rapidly decreasing.
To create awareness of the conservation of Olive Ridley government of Odisha named the official mascot the name of this rare species.
