The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world. It represents more than 60 percent of the total rainforests of the world. It is spread over an area of 6.7 million km square. A major part of this rainforest is in Brazil and other countries are Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Guyana, and Suriname.

The Amazon rainforest affords the planet irreplaceable ecosystem services that are increasingly being recognized by researchers and policymakers.

The Lungs of the earth
Amazon rain forest is also known as the lung of the world. Its forest area produces about 20-30% of the world’s oxygen.

Biodiversity and wildlife
The Amazon rainforest is home to more than 3 million species, which include 40,000 tree species, and 370 types of reptiles. perhaps 30 percent of the world’s species are found there. It is a treasure house of wildlife and have a great role in saving biodiversity.

Food factory of the Earth
Not only oxygen but also provides food support to the entire living organism. Fish, meat, plant products, insects many other things are there that are used as food across the globe.

Carbon storage

There are more than 40,000 plant species can found in the amazon basin. If we calculate the total forest area there are more than 390 billion trees across the Amazon rainforest. Its greenery looks beautiful and the dense forest not only produces oxygen but also stores carbon. It stores more than 123 billion tons of carbon- Global Change Biology. It is the most important terrestrial carbon reserve on Earth.

Local benefits
Many people depend on the Amazon basin or river to fulfill their needs. Starting from transportation to job creation it plays a vital role for those who directly depend upon this river.

Amazon rainforest economy
As per some studies, Amazon rainforest economy contributes more than $8.2 billion only to Brazil’s economy. This included farming, mining, and other employment opportunities- which is a great pillar to support the Economy.
